10 Remakes On The Way In 2017

Steve Porter / February 1, 2017

There’s almost nothing that’s more despised in the world of films like remakes. To most of the film going public, it seems that the majority of Hollywood is just out of new ideas. Executives willingly pillage the films of yesterday rather than come up with anything new. “Hey this movie did great 20 years ago, let’s remake it with a cast of fresh faces and a ton of extra flashy VFX.” Whelp, here we go with some of the remakes you can expect to be released some time this year.

Most would assume this was a remake of the 1991 animated feature film from Disney, but in reality, that was actually a remake. The original film was “La Belle et La Bête” a french film directed by Jean Cocteau from 1946. This musical family fantasy film about a beastly-looking prince who falls in love with a young woman is directed by Bill Condon and the screenplay is written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos. It stars Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Dan Stevens, Ewan McGregor, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The first film was released in 1932 and then we got another remake in 1959. Now, we come to the film that most think of when they hear, ”The Mummy,” the 1999 film directed by Stephen Sommers that started a half-assed franchise starring Brendan Fraser. Yep, after nearly 20 years, they are starting over. It’s bye bye Fraser, and hello Tom Cruise. An ancient princess awakens from her crypt, bringing with her hatred that’s grown over millennia, and terrors far beyond what humans are able to comprehend. This action adventure fantasy film is directed by Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us) and the screenplay was written by Jon Spaihts & Christopher McQuarrie. Alongside Cruise we’ve got Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Russell Crowe, Jake Johnson, and Chasty Ballesteros.
