In the 1950s, Acapulco was a luxurious beach resort synonymous with A-List celebrities. It was a small paradise for the rich and famous who would spend their time admiring the beautiful views while enjoying the deliciously warm weather and the deep blue sea. Unfortunately, all this was interrupted by the infamous drug war that has engulfed Mexico for more than a decade now.

 

 

Despite the city’s tranquility, gunfire between warring drug factions has somewhat turned the iconic tourist destination into the world’s second most violent city. Visiting this stunning coastal strip becomes a far riskier adventure as you stand being kidnapped, raped or murdered just on a whim by the deadly criminals. Crime rates are so high to an extent that countries severely warn their citizens from visiting the once-so-popular tourist destination.
