“Charmed” is Back—and Fans are Divided
The CW has dropped a new trailer for Charmed during their upfront presentation for the coming fall season. Fans are divided about the reboot of the classic 90s program about the power of sisterhood and witchcraft. The four-minute trailer reveals that the new Charmed plays it pretty similar to the original, but we’ll see whether or not that will appeal to audiences, new and old.
Some fans are angry that the show has even received a reboot without involving the original cast and crew. Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper on the original show, blasted the idea of a reboot on Twitter. That said, we’re pretty excited for the new show as it’s written by Jane the Virgin-creator Jennie Snyder Urman. If anyone can pull off a combination of magical hijinks, relationship drama, and a lot of heartfelt speeches, it’s Urman. The new show also shares an identical concept to the original, starring three sisters—Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), and Macy (Madeleine Mantock)—who learn they are witches or “charmed ones” after their mother dies under suspicious circumstances.
