Detroit Riots Movie Trailer Is Thrilling and Haunting

Steve Porter / April 12, 2017

Detroit is an upcoming crime drama based on true events in American history. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the movie’s storyline is based around the Detroit riot in 1967.

A police raid of an unlicensed bar ends up resulting in one of the largest and most destructive citizen uprisings in the history of the United States. The riot is also known as the 12th Street riot and it lasted for five days.

In the trailer we see the military turned against civilians, and we see the civil unrest all over the city. Tensions are high in what looks like a war zone.

The movie explores the themes of systematic racism and the heavy tension at the time in urban Detroit, which includes the killing of three young men, instigated by the police.
