Dota 2 Champions Team Liquid Win $10.8 Million

Steve Porter / August 14, 2017

Liquid are doing it? No, Liquid have done it!

The International 7, the 2017 edition of the Dota 2 Championships concluded over the weekend which saw European Union team Liquid triumph over their Chinese opponents, Newbee. For their dominant 3-0 series victory, Team Liquid took home more than $10.8 million ($10,855,772 USD to be exact). Although Newbee wasn’t able to take even one game off the eventual champions, they still took home $3.9 million for their efforts.

Liquid’s run to the Aegis was fantastic. Unlike Newbee who were able to remain in the upper bracket for the entire tournament, the Chinese team saw their only series loss come when it mattered most. Team Liquid dropped down to the lower bracket after their first series and were fighting off elimination every step of the way since.

Liquid’s captain Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi, has played in a TI Grand Finals before, but this was his first win. He was with Na’Vi when they finished in 2nd place at The International 2013. With the win, KuroKy now becomes the first player in esports history to break the $3 million milestone in prize winnings. Liquid has also overtaken Evil Geniuses as the top esports organization when it comes to earning prize money.

Congrats to Team Liquid!
