Extended Look at “Christopher Robin” Tugs on the Heartstrings
If you’re my age, you grew up with Winnie the Pooh. The original children’s books, first written in 1926 by A.A. Milne and illustrated by E.H. Shepard, became an instant classic. Disney then brought the beautiful children’s characters to life in 1966 in a series of sweet cartoons that found a place in the hearts of children (and their parents) around the world. Now, Disney is set to release a live-action adaptation of Winnie the Pooh that functions as a spiritual sequel to the original story.
In the upcoming movie, Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) is a family man that has lost his way—trapped in a thankless job and neglecting his wife and daughter. (This sounds a lot like Hook, starring the late Robin Williams, and we can only hope it’s half as good.) Christopher Robin needs the help of his childhood friends to rediscover the true meaning of life and rebuild his relationship with his family.
Take a look at this extended sneak peek!
Judging from this extended look, Christopher Robin is faithful to the presentation of the characters in the original books and cartoons. While nothing can replace the whimsical, painterly animation of the original films, the live-action stuffed toys look remarkably good on screen.
Disney’s Christopher Robin is directed by Marc Forster and stars Ewan McGregor as Christopher Robin; Hayley Atwell as Evelyn; Bronte Carmichael as Madeline; and Mark Gatiss as Giles Winslow. Jim Cummings voices Winnie the Pooh and Tigger; Brad Garrett is Eeyore; Toby Jones is Owl; Nick Mohammed is Piglet; Peter Capaldi is Rabbit; and Sophie Okonedo is Kanga.
Christopher Robin arrives in theaters August 3.
