Jessica Chastain Will Play Lead In X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Steve Porter / August 2, 2017

The two-time Academy Award nominee (once for 2011’s The Help and then again in 2012 for Zero Dark Thirty) has jumped into the superhero world to play the title villain in X-Men: Dark Phoenix next year.

The film, which will follow in the footsteps of the critically-acclaimed Wolverine film Logan, is part of 20th Century Fox’s most ambitious wave of X-Men related movies in 2018. New Mutants is set to release on April 13, 2018 and Deadpool 2 on June 1, 2018.

This film will be written and directed by an X-Men staple, Simon Kinberg, a name that is linked to almost every X-Men film over the past few years. As the name alludes to, not-so-subtly I might add, is the continuation from where we were left at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse. We’ll probably follow Jean Grey, as played by Sophie Turner, as she begins to morph into the character Dark Phoenix. And that’s where Jessica Chastain comes in.

While it’s not official yet, reports are saying she will be playing Princess-Majestrix Lilandra Neramani aka Dark Phoenix, and she’ll be on a mission to destroy Jean Grey over the course of the film. With the disappointing feedback coming from X-Men Apocalypse, we’re just hoping Chastain’s talents don’t go to waste here.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is expected to release on November 02, 2018.
