Kendrick Lamar: Rappers With Ghostwriters Can’t Be The Best

Arin Spits / August 11, 2017

When Kendrick Lamar landed on the cover of Rolling Stone in August, the Compton rapper opened up on his stance on rappers with ghostwriters. In short, if you use a ghostwriter, you can’t claim to be the best ever. Can’t really argue with that, can you really be the strongest man in the world if someone’s doing the heavy lifting for you? We see you, Kendrick.

He also explained what it means to be a ‘wack artist’. In his words, he says that a wack artist is someone who uses other people’s music for their approval. This is someone that instead of being themselves, they’re trying to chase someone else’s success. Instead of doing their own thing, they end up keeping the music biz ‘watered-down’.

With his latest album DAMN, venturing into the pop scene is a challenging thing for him. With three singles “Humble”, “DNA” and “Loyalty” featuring Rihanna, DAMN debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200 and received widespread critial acclaim in the process.

If you’re in the game and looking for some advice, stay true to yourself, and get rid of that ghostwriter.
