Matt Groening Reveals First Pictures from New Animated Show “Disenchantment”

Netflix has released a few images from Disenchantment, the first new animated television show from Matt Groening in over twenty years. The animated fantasy series shares a similar style and voice cast from Groening’s previous works, The Simpsons and Futurama.

Disenchantment stars the voices of Abbi Jacobson (Broad City and BoJack Horseman), Nat Faxon (Friends From College and American Dad), and Eric Andre (Man Seeking Woman). The show is set in the run-down kingdom of “Dreamland”—maybe that’s why it looks like it takes place in a dream sequence on The Simpsons—and features a hard-drinking princess, Bean (Jacobson), her friend Elfo the Elf (Faxon), and her personal demon assistant, Luci (Andre). The supporting cast is a motley collection of fantastical creatures, wizards, and village idiots voiced by a who’s-who of talent from The Simpsons and Futurama, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery.

Groening had an amazing run, but critics have been unkind to contemporary seasons of The Simpsons despite it’s status as a cultural juggernaut on FOX. We’ll see if Groening can rekindle his artistic flair on Netflix. Check it out on August 17.
