Steve Porter / June 25, 2018

Richard “Old Man” Harrison, star of the hit reality show Pawn Stars, had died. He was 77.

His son, Rick Harrison, confirmed his passing in a touching Instagram post on Monday. The Harrisons owned the Las Vegas-based Gold & Silver Pawn Shop; the family business became the subject of a highly successful show on the History Channel in 2009 and features local experts who evaluate the rare, strange, and unusual times brought to the pawn shop by eccentric sellers.

Rick Harrison shared the news of his father’s death on Instagram with the show’s fans: “Richard Benjamin ‘The Old Man’ Harrison passed away this morning surrounded by those he loved. He will be tremendously missed by our family, the team at Gold & Silver Pawn and his many fans the world over.” Rick confessed that his father was his hero: “I was fortunate to get a very cool ‘Old Man’ as my dad. That I got to share him with so many others and they got to see what a great family man he was is something I am grateful to have experienced with him.”
