Reynolds and Jackson Star In The Hitman’s Bodyguard

Steve Porter / April 20, 2017

The Hitman’s Bodyguard is an R-rated action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson. The film was directed by Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) while the screenplay comes to us from Tom O’Connor (Fire With Fire). Alongside Reynolds and Jackson, we’ve got Gary Oldman, Elodie Yung, Salma Hayek, and Richard E. Grant.

This is one of those movies where the title pretty much tells you everything you need to know about it. The world’s best hitman must testify at the International Court of Justice and has enlisted the services of the world’s most accomplished bodyguards. The pair has to set aside their differences and cooperate in order to make it to trial on time. It’s kinda like Get Him To The Greek, but with a hell of a lot more blood and guns. Right fff the bat, let me say that other than the name of the film nodding at the 1992 Kevin Costner film The Bodyguard, I love the poster they’re using on imdb at the moment. Oh and of course, the trailer is cut to Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

Reynolds and Jackson seem to play off of each other really well, and from the trailer, the film seems to strike a good balance between slapstick comedy and legitimate action. For a guy who’s on the tail end of his 60’s, Jackson still holds his own. Reynolds, on the other hand, seems to play the same character in every movie. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, so don’t get me wrong, but he’s very one-dimensional at the moment – but he’s still very entertaining and does it very well.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard is set to premiere on the 18th of August, 2017.  “Tick tock motherf***er!”
