The Book of Henry Trailer Is Not What You Expect

Steve Porter / April 1, 2017

No, The Book of Henry is not a book in the Bible, nor is it related to The Book of Eli, but it does seem to have a big twist in the plot as seen in the trailer.

Only having seen the trailer, I did not expect the storyline to go in that direction, becoming a rather dark and intense plot. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, watch it here first before reading further.

The trailer seems bright, literally, with all of the sunshine, the gentle and positive sounding melody, and the introduction to the clearly genius boy named, Henry, played by Jaeden Lieberher, who seems to be holding his family together and even being his mom’s financial advisor. The single mother, Susan, played by Naomi Watts seems to give tons of praise about her son, and all appears to be warm and intriguing as we see Henry’s wicked tree house and his own Rube Goldberg set up.

We’re then introduced to all the major characters in the movie, Henry, his mom Susan, his younger brother, his female friend and next door neighbor, Christina, and her stepfather Glenn Sickleman, played by Dean Norris. Yes, Dean Norris plays a cop again, as you may recognize him as Hank Schrader from Breaking Bad. Things take a turn when Christina reveals a dangerous secret that exposes her abusive stepfather.

Now, it seems to be up to an 11 year old boy and his mother to put an end to Christina’s stepfather, who is also the town’s police commissioner, who appears to have crossed the line. The rest of the trailer is comprised of shots (no pun intended) of Henry devising his plan, with him in a gun store, and Susan wielding a sniper rifle at the end. This trailer definitely went from 0 to 100 really quick.

The intense drama-thriller is directed by Colin Trevorrow, who has also directed Jurassic World (2015), and is working on Star Wars: Episode IX (2019). The Book of Henry hits theaters on June 16, 2017.
