The Lion King Releases List of Voice Actors

Shelby Chau / November 3, 2017

If you were excited about Jon Favreau’s live-action The Lion King remake, Disney sent out the list of voice acting talent that’s about to make your jaw drop. Playing Nala will be none other than Queen B herself, Beyoncé. Playing Scar is Oscar nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, playing Simba’s mother Sarabi is Alfre Woodard, and we have Keegan-Michael Key and Eric André as two of the three hyenas Kamari and Azizi, respectively. The third hyena Shenzi will be voiced by Florence Kasumba.

Seems like Disney’s found a sweet spot when it comes to bringing back old favorites. Beauty and the Beast was the latest to come to life, then there was The Jungle Book (2016), Cinderella (2015), Maleficent (2014), and Alice in Wonderland (2010). Favreau’s The Lion King will have the same CGI/live-action style that made The Jungle Book so wonderful to watch.

Not to leave out the rest of the cast, Donald Glover is playing the coveted role of Simba, James Earl Jones is back as Simba’s father Mufasa. Timon and Pumbaa are voiced by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen while Zazu is played by John Oliver. Young Simba and young Nala will be voiced by JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph and Rafiki is voiced by John Kani.

The remake of The Lion King is expected to hit theaters July 2019.
