What You Need To Know About The Nintendo Switch Event

Steve Porter / January 12, 2017

The preview trailer was released on October 20th, 2016, and now that we’re into 2017, we’re that much closer to the actual launch of Nintendo’s next gaming system, the Switch. It can be used as a home entertainment console, but the trailer also shows us how mobile this next-gen system can be.

Leading up to the March 2017 launch date, Nintendo will be holding hands-on events in both NYC and London with a live-streaming component from Tokyo which is slated for January 12th at 8 PM PST (11 PM EST).

During this event, many questions will hopefully be answered. Some of the things Nintendo fans will want to know include:

Games: What’s the next Mario title going to be? From the trailer, we will probably see a Zelda title, an NBA game, Mario Kart, and Splatoon.

Compatibility: Will the Wii remotes be rendered obsolete? This is a serious question for those that still have a Wii or Wii U.

Price: From r/NintendoSwitch, the price is estimated to be around $250 to $350 USD. This is just speculation and it could be totally wrong.

The Release Date: March 2017, that’s all we know. However, Nintendo will also be holding a multi-city preview tour leading up to the launch, and with the last city being Austin, Texas, at SXSW, don’t expect the Nintendo Switch to be available anytime before March 18th.

(EDIT Jan. 13, 2017: Well, I was completely wrong. The Switch is available March 3rd. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
