Did Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves Really Get Married on the Set of ‘Dracula’!?
Did Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves get accidentally married on the set of Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1992?
Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves are both in the middle of a well-deserved comeback—Ryder stealing the show in Stranger Things; Keanu as the brooding action star of John Wick. The two actors started as cult darlings in the early 1990s, Keanu best known for Bill & Ted before breaking into the big leagues in Point Break, while Ryder starred in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Naturally, they were both cast in one of the strangest movies of 1992: Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a Gothic horror-romance somehow directed by Francis Ford Copolla.
While on a promotional tour for their upcoming rom-com, Destination Wedding, the two actors discussed their on-camera wedding in Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula with Entertainment Weekly. Turns out, they might be married in Romania!
“We actually got married in Dracula,” Ryder told EW, “No, I wear to god I think we’re married in real life.” This might not be a joke, people! Ryder said that, “In that scene, Francis used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”
Keanu Reeves seemed to take the news that he’s been for 26 years as a joke, but Ryder reminded him that they went through the whole ceremony said, “I do.” Reeves was flabbergasted, “Oh my gosh, we’re married.”
While this would be an amazing coincidence, dedicated marital sleuths concluded that under Romanian law most marriages aren’t binding without signed civil documents, so Ryder and Reeves won’t need an annulment any time soon!
Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder star as reluctant wedding guests forced together in Destination Wedding, which will book a room in theaters on August 31.
