Check Out This Year’s Emmy Nods

Steve Porter / July 19, 2018

We’re pumped for this year’s Emmy Awards! The industry’s preeminent celebration of excellence on television is set to air this September, but the show has already released their list of nominees.

This year’s nominees feature the usual suspects. Leading the pack is Game of Thrones with 22 nominations and Westworld with 21 nominations, both from awards juggernaut HBO. Tied for second place is television mainstay Saturday Night Live (last year, SNL broke its own record for most nominations for any program with 231), trailed by critical darling and the dictionary definition of “topical political commentary,” The Handmaid’s Tale. The leading comedy is Donald Glover’s headline-grabber Atlanta.

Many of the entries for Outstanding Drama are returning nominees, including champions such as Game of Thrones and The Handmaid’s Tale. Comedy features a handful of upstarts, including new shows like GLOW, The Marvels Ms. Maisel, and Barry.

While the deck is loaded with some great television, we’re rooting for The Crown for Outstanding Drama Series and GLOW for Outstanding Comedy. (But we have to say that Tatiana Maslany deserves to win outstanding actress for Orphan Black!) Take a look at the top nominees below and let us know your top picks in the comments!
