A Look At Netflix’s New Feature Film “iBoy”

Steve Porter / January 24, 2017

The trailer hit YouTube on January 12th, 2017. The film follows Tom, a teenager who has his world turned upside down after a violent run in with gangsters which left small pieces of his destroyed smartphone lodged in his brain. After awaking from a coma, he learns that he won’t be able to return to life as he once knew because he’s developed abilities that one can only describe as “super powers”. With his newfound abilities, he sets out to use them to exact revenge on those who harmed him and his best friend, Lucy.

iBoy is a Sci-Fi action film with elements of your typical crime drama. It will run for a total of 1 hour and 31 minutes. Its directed by Adam Randall, written by Joe Barton, and is based on the novel by Kevin Brooks. It stars Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, Bill Milner from 2007’s Son of Rambo, Charley Palmer Rothwell from Legend, Jordan Bolger from Peaky Blinders, and more. iBoy is set to be released on January 27, 2017.

From the trailer, we get a good look at what Tom’s powers are, how having pieces of a smartphone imbedded in his brain can alter his literal view of reality, and we get a glimpse at how the criminal under world plays into the narrative. The trailer does, however, give you the feeling that you’ve pretty much watched the whole film. We’re sure there are still secrets that have yet to be revealed and we’re banking on the idea that the things not revealed in the trailer will spice up the story a bit.

Visually, it seems flashy and the cinematography appears to be top notch. We get a good vibe from Bill Milner as the protagonist and look forward to seeing him show some depth and range while playing Tom. So, set your notifications for the 27th at 12:01 so you can be sure to stream the film before all your friends do.
