Are You Ready For Some Game of Thrones Spinoffs?

Shelby Chau / May 7, 2017

We all know that HBO’s massively successful hit show Game of Thrones is coming to an end next season, and most are dreading it when the time comes.

Even if you’ve come to terms with it, HBO certainly hasn’t. Just recently, the premium cable and satellite TV network has decided to make sure the franchise continues to bring in viewers. This comes as somewhat of a surprise because the network has never made a follow-up series to one of its hits, but then again, nothing has ever compared to the success of Game of Thrones.

To keep the momentum up, HBO has decided to enlist the help of four different writers to develop four different spinoffs in order to expand the universe created by author George R.R. Martin.

The writers aren’t new to the game either and most even have experience with some big theatrical releases. HBO will be looking for ideas from Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service), Max Borenstein (Fox’s Minority Report, Godzilla), Brian Helgeland (Man on Fire, A Knight’s Tale, 42), and Carly Wray (Mad Men). Martin will also be in the mix when it comes to the projects involving Jane Goldman and Carly Wray.

Although no details have been revealed at this point, HBO has stated that the spinoffs may explore different time periods of the GoT’s “vast and rich universe.”

And while four ideas are in development, there’s no telling if all of them will be greenlit, or none at all. HBO is going through multiple options, but they’re probably looking for at least one title that can move the Game of Thrones franchise forward.

Have any ideas you’d want to see?
