Despicable Me 3 Trailer #2

Steve Porter / April 8, 2017

In 2010, families all over the world fell in love with a criminal mastermind named Gru, his three adopted daughters, and a race of tiny yellow creatures known as Minions who only speak in incomprehensible gibberish. Despicable Me was directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud and this PG animated adventure comedy has a 7.7 on IMDB based on the votes of over 400,000 members. The picture went on to win “Best Animated Feature” at the 2011 Golden Globes, and “Favorite Animated Movie” at the Kids’ Choice Awards.

In 2013, the sequel was released with Coffin and Renaud returning to direct. The second instalment won 14 awards. With a combined budget of about $140 million, the first two films made over $1.5 billion theatrically worldwide and astronomically more through home video, VOD, and merchandising so I think it’s safe to say that financially speaking, from the studio’s perspective, the series is an investment no-brainer.

This summer, on the 30th of June, we will be getting the third installment in the series. This time we’ve got 3 directors: Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin, and Eric Goullion. Kyle Balda directed the Minions spinoff movie back in 2015 while this will be the first time Eric Guillion (character designer/animator by trade) has directed a film. DM3 boasts of some pretty good voice talent as well including Kristen Wiig, Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Trey Parker, and Russell Brand.

In the latest trailer, we see Gru has been fired from his job for letting Balthazar Bratt, a 1980’s child star hellbent on world domination, escape. Gru then finds out he has a twin brother named Dru who is richer, healthier, and has more hair. Dru then reminds Gru that villainy is in his blood and convinces him to join him on one final caper. It looks like a good time and we’re sure the whole family will be rolling in the aisles blabbing in Minion speak afterwards.
