Fate of the Furious Has Passed The $1 Billion Mark Worldwide

Arin Spits / May 3, 2017

After a very successful opening month for the 8th installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise, F8: Fate of the Furious has now made more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide. Over the weekend, the movie has now made about $1.06 billion and just the second to reach the billion mark in franchise history.

Furious 7 was the first in the series to reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office in 2015. That movie finished its run with a total of $1.52 billion worldwide and was propelled in part with the untimely death of its main star, Paul Walker.

2017 has already seen two movies surpass the coveted billion dollar mark. Fate of the Furious is the latest to do so while Beauty and the Beast was the first of the year to reach that mark. In terms of the all time mark, Fate has currently cracked the Top 20 while Beauty and the Beast sits at #13. Furious 7 stands at #6 all time with a total of $1.516 billion.

According to Box Office Mojo, There’s currently only 30 movies to have reached the billion mark, but only three titles have ever cracked $2 billion worldwide. Those movies include Avatar, Titanic, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While Fate of the Furious is unlikely to hit the $2 billion mark, the next Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, definitely has a good shot especially since the last one made $2.0682 billion at the box office.
