Game of Thrones Season 7 Gets A Trailer And Premiere Date

Shelby Chau / March 12, 2017

Attention Game of Thrones fans! Season 7 just got a release date, unfortunately, it’s not until July. The official premiere date is scheduled for July 16, 2017.

Fans are generally used to a spring time premiere, five of the past six seasons have premiered in April, with the only exception being Season 3 which premiered on March 31st. This season though, is scheduled only to have 7 episodes to continue the storylines of Arya, Sansa, Daenerys Targaryen, and the latest King in the North, Jon Snow.

The latest announcement was made on Thursday through Facebook Live on the official Game of Thrones page.

As to why the series was pushed back, HBO released a statement last July citing that since winter has come to Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, executive producers of the show, felt that by starting production a little later than usual will serve the storylines better, you know, when the weather is changing. As such, the delay in filming means a longer wait for the rest of us. The episodes will be (or were) filmed partly in Spain and Iceland, but primarily in Northern Ireland.
