GoT’s ‘Spoils of War’ Episode Shatters Ratings Record

Shelby Chau / August 9, 2017

Even when hackers leaked the episode ahead of its scheduled run, fans of Game of Thrones still tuned in by the millions to watch the critically acclaimed series during its regular showing. Despite the episode being posted online on August 4th, fans shattered ratings records for the series on Sunday.

And boy, were viewers in for a treat! [Spoilers below!]

The epic-ness of this episode cannot be understated. First we see Littlefinger trying to run his con onto Bran by giving him the Valyrian steel dagger that was meant to kill him, but we all know he ain’t having any of it. Bran then gives Arya (oh yeah, she’s home!) the dagger, and it’s the best upgrade she’s gotten, well, since she got her eyes back. And then, the pièce de résistance, we see Daenerys riding Drogon into battle for the loot train attack. I’ll just leave it at that, because really it’s an episode that you just need to watch!

More than 10 million people (10.2 million to be exact) tuned in to watch the second last season’s fourth episode which set a new record for the HBO series. The record which was set previously, the current season’s premiere which aired last month, drew in 100,000 less than the one that just aired on Sunday.

So, let it be known, Spoils of War is the most watched Game of Thrones episode to date, but let’s be honest, it probably won’t hold the title for long.
