It’s Star Wars Day Across The Galaxy
If you didn’t know, today is Star Wars Day!
It’s an annual celebration of the Star Wars franchise, that isn’t actually a holiday or officially declared by George Lucas or Lucasfilm, but it was determined by the fans, due to its play on words of “May the Force be with you”.
On the Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon posted this fun video with re-edited footage from the films singing the song “All Star” by Smash Mouth just in time for fans to enjoy.
On this day, fans around the world will watch one or more of the films from the Star Wars saga. Don’t be surprised if you see fans dresses as their favorite Jedi or Sith or stormtrooper. Star Wars costumes are popular and appropriate attire for the day.
You’ll also notice, if you haven’t by now, that #StarWarsDay and #MaytheFourthbewithyou are trending online.
This year’s Star Wars Day will be the first since the passing of actress Carrie Fisher, famous for her role as Princess Leia Organa, and fans across the galaxy are paying tribute.
This year also marks the 40th anniversary since the original film. The very first Star Wars film, Episode IV – A New Hope was released in 1977 and launched the story into worldwide success, branching out to include books, television series, comics, video games and all kinds of toys and merchandise.
If you so happen to be in the area, Disneyland and the Walt Disney World theme parks have their own celebrations, since Disney owns the rights to the Star Wars franchise. I can only imagine how awesome and epic the celebrations must be when the official Star Wars Land finally opens.
If you didn’t know, the fun doesn’t just stop at midnight, because tomorrow, May 5th, is also known as “Revenge of the Fifth” playing on the film title Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”.
Fans also look forward to December, when the latest Star Wars film, Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, hits theaters. You can see the trailer for the upcoming film below.
