Location Scout For ‘Narcos’ Shot Dead In Mexico

Steve Porter / September 19, 2017

In a sad turn of events, the location scout for the hit Netflix series ‘Narcos’ was shot and killed in central Mexico in an area known to be violent. Carlos Muñoz Portal worked for Redrum, a production company based in Mexico and had many credits to his name including high profile movies such as Fast & Furious, Sicario, and Spectre.

Portal was found in an area that has one of the highest rates of murder in all of Mexico. In July alone, there were 182 homicide cases in the month which when broken down, for every 100,000 inhabitants, that’s 12.2 homicides. His body was riddled with bullet wounds and was in a car near San Bartolo Actopan in a remote area.

Authorities are still investigating his death, however, given the lack of witnesses, they’re not having an easy time at it.

Netflix is aware of the tragic events and sent their condolences to his family.

As season 3 wrapped up for Narcos, the story now shifts to Mexico after seeing the rise and fall of the Cali cartel in Colombia. Season 4 is expected to focus on the Juarez cartel from Mexico, however, given the circumstances of Portal’s death, it’s uncertain whether Netflix will continue their plans to film in Mexico. If they don’t and go back to Colombia, hundreds of jobs may be lost in Mexico.
