New Netflix Film “War Machine” Gets A Trailer

Steve Porter / March 6, 2017

Back on the 1st of March, Netflix released the trailer for their new film, War Machine. This dramedy written and  directed by David Michod is based on “The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War In Afghanistan” which was written by Michael Hastings. War Machine stars Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Lakeith Stanfield, Anthony Michael Hall, Ben Kingsley, and Topher Grace.

This project cost the folks over at Netflix the a (moderately) hefty sum of $60,000,000 for the rights to release the film. It started out at New Regency coupled with Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment and RatPac Entertainment. Studio execs couldn’t come to an agreed upon budget, nor could they get the director they wanted, so the project was put up for bidders and Netflix swooped in for the kill.

This is a satirical look at the people involved in America’s war with Afghanistan. Instead of focusing on soldiers with boots on the ground, they opted to examine the people who run the campaign. Pitt stars as Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, a commander in charge of international and U.S. troops who was criticized for mocking U.S. officials in a 2010 Rolling Stone article and subsequently resigned.

The trailer is good for some laughs and Pitt is quite funny. The visuals are good and the editing of the trailer alone is sharp and effective. The film is set for release on the 26th of May, 2017, so make sure to mark it on your calendars.
