Sony Will Release Limited-Edition Transparent PS4 Pro
If you’re my age, you can remember when new gaming systems like the Nintendo N64 and Game Boy Color came with a transparent plastic case to showcase the advanced electronics inside. There was a strange beauty to the murky hint of gold, green, and silver under the casing. Now, Sony is revisiting the 90s: the company plans on releasing a limited edition transparent PlayStation 4 Pro in August.
The limited edition bundle commemorates 500 million PlayStation consoles sold over the past decades, 24 years after the original “PlayStation” was first released in 1994. The commemorative edition comes in dark blue plastic and is a little less translucent than we would have wanted. While the gorgeous blue tone reminds us of the original PS2, the casing doesn’t reveal anything under the hood.
The commemorative edition comes in a bundle with a 2TB PS4 Pro, Dualshock 4 controller, and PlayStation camera. You’ll be able to purchase additional controllers separately, as well as a Gold Wireless headset that has the same dark blue translucent casing. Sony is only releasing 50,000 models worldwide for $499.99 a pop. They go on sale in the U.S. and Canada on August 24.
