Sony’s New ‘Venom’ Movie Gets A Lead And Director

Arin Spits / May 24, 2017

With an opening date set for October 5th, 2018, the time is ticking to get the ball rolling on Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff for Venom.

We already know that Sony is rebooting the Spider-Man franchise (again) with Tom Holland, but now their Venom movie is getting arguably an even bigger star. Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant) who has been nominated in the past for an Oscar, will be playing the role of Eddie Brock. The choice is much better aligned considering Hardy’s past roles as tough men such as Tommy (Warrior) and Bane (The Dark Knight Rises). I’m sure everyone felt the same way when Topher Grace portrayed Venom in Spider-Man 3.

Just think of the possibilities!

To direct the film featuring one of the signature villains from the Spider-Man universe will be Ruben Fleischer, the man responsible for directing a little film known as Zombieland.

With Spider-Man: Homecoming set for release on July 7th of this year, Venom‘s success will probably hinge on Spider-Man’s shoulders. If it does well, it’ll have a great impact as to whether this universe can be expanded moving forward.

So, what do you think about the actor and director choices for Venom?
