The New Stranger Things Super Bowl Spot Is Creepy But Awesome

Steve Porter / February 8, 2017

When Stranger Things was released, not even Netflix could have known it would have become the hit that it did. The success the series experienced happens rarely in the overly saturated industry of serial programming and even less when the shows are produced and distributed exclusively on/for streaming platforms. Here, we’ll just say it. There is a bit of a quality control issue when it comes to some of Netflix’s original content. The vast majority of the stuff is amazing, don’t get us wrong, but some of it just stinks…*Cough*  Between, Richie Rich, Fuller House… *Cough*.

Now, the world has collectively been holding its breath awaiting news about Stranger Things’ return since the final episode titled “The Upside Down” left us all with so many questions – so many damn questions! Gahhhhh!

Netflix didn’t keep their fans waiting for too long before teasing little tidbits of what people were in store for. It came by way of a cryptic trailer that revealed the tentative titles for the episodes of Season 2. Matt Duffer said that some of the titles will likely change upon release because the actual titles would give away too much. The titles of the episodes are: Madmax, The Boy Who Came Back To Life, The Pumpkin Patch, The Palace, The Storm, The Pollywog, The Secret Cabin, The Brain, and The Lost Brother.

The Super Bowl is known for it’s commercials, you know, aside from the game itself, and boy-oh-boy did Netflix deliver with their release of a Stranger Things Season 2 trailer. The trailer opens with what appears to be a vintage breakfast commercial for Eggo waffles and it just gets weirder from there. Ghostbusters, security camera feeds from inside of what we can only speculate is The Hawkins facility, someone in a hazmat suit holding a flame thrower, crazy dream sequences, and a giant spider monster measuring hundreds of feet in height. The trailer finishes off by announcing when we will be able to binge watch nearly 9 hours of pure strangeness!  The timing of season 2’s release couldn’t be better – October 31, 2017! I know it’s a bittersweet victory as it’s so close, yet so far away.
