The Nintendo Switch Has Officially Arrived, For Some People

Steve Porter / March 4, 2017

On March 3rd, Nintendo finally launched the much anticipated gaming console, the Nintendo Switch. The day started with a message to all players who were lucky enough to be playing on the console right on launch day. Reggie (Reginald) Fils-Aimé, Nintendo of America’s President and Chief Operating Officer took to Twitter to express his feelings towards Nintendo’s “incredible fans.”

Unfortunately, if you didn’t treat the day like Black Friday, or if you were lucky enough to get in on a pre-order, you might be stuck staring at a lot of “Out of Stock,” “Not Available,” or “Currently Available” messages when you check some of your favorite retailers.

Okay, you think, maybe I’ll get it on the secondary market like eBay. Well, as of 1:30pm EST on launch day, prices have gone as high as $2,299.00 USD. Seriously, there are much better things to spend that kind of money on.

The launch of the Switch has been highly covered by many news outlets. Some have expressed concerns about its hardware specs, and some have expressed concerns about the games available at launch. However, it seems that it’s quality over quantity. The Legend of Zelda, one of Nintendo’s best franchises, returns with Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the reviews have been stellar. It’s only been a day, but hopefully their latest console is going to keep the company moving forward.
