Tom Cruise Confirms Top Gun Sequel Is In The Works
While on a promo tour for his latest film, Mummy, Tom Cruise told Australian morning show Sunrise that the movie is ‘definitely happening.’ He’s also said that the Top Gun sequel will probably begin filming in the next year.
Everyone knows (or should know) the classic film from 1986 which featured characters named Maverick (Tom Cruise), Goose (), and Iceman (Val Kilmer). It was an action and romance film which grossed $356 million after it’s release.
As of now, the current frontrunner to direct Top Gun 2 is Joseph Kosinski. Intact, Kosonski directed Cruise while they worked on Oblivion together. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but insiders currently believe it’s only a matter of time.
Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original Top Gun, will produce the sequel with Skydance CEO David Ellison and Cruise.
Cruise will be reprising his role as Maverick, but unfortunately we won’t see anymore of Goose – for obvious reasons. Val Kilmer has gone on record to state his interest in returning, but nothing formal has been set. Maverick’s love interest in the original, his flight instructor, Charlotte Blackwood, played by Kelly McGillis, is also a good choice to make a return, but her future in the film is also uncertain at this point.
Welcome back to the danger zone.
