Will PlayStation Users Soon Be Able Change Their PSN Name?

Steve Porter / October 9, 2018

It’s been over twelve years since the launch of the PlayStation Network. In all that time, users have been unable to change their PSN Name. If you signed up for the online service in 2006 and chose “xx_pwnagegamer1_xx” as your online handle, you might finally have a chance to replace your embarrassing PSN Name according to a report from Kotaku.

Anonymous game developers at multiple studios told Kotaku that they’re preparing to implement PlayStation Network name changes. Three different people at three different game studios told reporters that Sony has indicated they should prepare for PSN name changes and they have been working on ensuring that their games are compatible with new user names. You can read the whole report here.

While Xbox Live allows users to change their names at will, the inability to edit your username has always been a frustrating feature for PSN users. There are millions of players with repetitive, outdated, or offensive usernames they chose when they were younger. If this report is true, that’s finally about to change.
