‘X-Men’ Spinoff ‘New Mutants’ Will Feature Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy
It will be “a full-fledged horror movie.” Those were there words from the upcoming X-Men spin-off, The New Mutants, director Josh Boone.
If different is what he is aiming for, different is what he will get. He also stated that there will be no supervillains and no costumes. The spin-off is based around a group of teenage mutants who have powers while they must learn to control them.
To star in the film, production has enlisted the services of a popular Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams, who gets to play Wolfsbane. Anya Taylor-Joy of The Witch and Split fame will be playing Magik. Magik also happens to be the sister of Colossus – the same Colossus who made an appearance in Deadpool.
Another rumored star to be linked to the project is Daredevil actress, Rosario Dawson. While these are still rumors, if she is cast she will likely play the mentor figure for the teens, Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
The script was written by Boone and Knate Lee, his writing partner. Producing the movie will be Karen Rosenfelt and Simon Kinberg.
The first X-Men comic spinoff, New Mutants, was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod which was launched in the early 1980s.
New Mutants is scheduled to be released in April 2018.
